Zuraida to visit Sarawak after entry ban lift

KUCHING: Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, who was previously banned from entering Sarawak, will make an official trip to the state tomorrow.

She will be the first Federal minister to visit Sarawak after Pakatan Harapan took over power in the 14th General Election.

Zuraida is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian tomorrow morning.

She will also visit the Padawan Municipal Council and Sungai Tengah People’s Housing Programme (PPR) in Matang here.

She is then scheduled to visit the state Fire and Rescue Department headquarters before returning to Kuala Lumpur in the evening.

Prior to GE14, Zuraida was one of several Pakatan politicians barred from entering Sarawak.

The Wanita PKR chief was denied entry twice in 2014 and again on Jan 29, 2016 when she came to meet PKR’s potential women candidates for the state elections that year.

She was last refused entry when she arrived at Miri Airport on Sept 23 last year.

Last month, the state government lifted the entry ban on several Pakatan leaders after they were appointed Federal ministers.

Other leaders removed from the state’s immigration blacklist included Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
