Women’s wing to reach out to needy

MIRI: The “Squad Sayang” women members in Sarawak will undergo a “rebranding” to better serve the needy in society.

Squad Sayang which is under the Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) Wanita wing, will take on more social responsibilities in their outreach programme, said PBB Wanita deputy chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

Fatimah, who is also Sarawak Welfare, Women, Community Wellbeing and Family Development Minister, said squad members must make more effort to reach the grassroots.

“We will carry out a rebranding exercise for Squad Sayang to touch the hearts of the rakyat and engage them.

“Squad Sayang is already involved in outreach programmes like giving aid to the needy, visiting the sick and organising community activities.

“I want to see them take a more active role in tackling social ills, especially involving teens.

“We will also need to play a bigger role in identifying the stateless; those who have no birth certificates or MyKad.

“Lets get out of our comfort zone and reach out further,” she said during a briefing for PBB Bekenu members on the rebranding.

Fatimah stressed that the squad helps all needy folk.

“As long as there are needy people, Squad Sayang must help.

“Their race or religion does not matter, we help everyone in need,” she said.

Fatimah also wanted to see Squad Sayang engaging with local non-governmental organisations in their outreach projects.

PBB Wanita is willing to cooperate with other Barisan Nasional component parties to be more effective in their outreach, she added.
