Widower in shock when told he could not marry

SIBU: A man from Kanowit who went to the National Registration Department (NRD) to register his marriage with his partner after more than a year of courtship was left shocked and disappointed when the NRD officer rejected his application yesterday morning.

The officer told him the reason – that he already had a legal wife residing in Miri. However, the man, in his 40’s, clarified that his wife had passed away several years ago, and he has not remarried since. He also mentioned that he lost his Mykad some six months ago and had not renewed it.

It was believed that somebody had found his Mykad and used it as the Mykad correctly showed all his details except for the absence of his mugshot. A police report was lodged.
