Where does a Management Degree get you?
When an Engineering student graduates, he/she will be an engineer right? So a Management Degree holder will become a Manager the instant he/she graduates?
I come from an electrical engineering background, worked for 2 years and I know the best top position you can hold is an executive manager. However, it usually requires several long years to get to that position, which makes me think, why don’t we all just study Management programmes and become a manager the instant we graduate? I know this statement is disturbing and wrong (which I hope!)
jiang zemin, the previous president of proc is an electrical engineer by training
hu jintao, the current president of proc is a hydraulic engineer by training

if you hope to be in management position one day, and be good at it, you better read more…

If that is the best effort you believe you can only achieve in your lifetime, so then it will be yours … Maybe you should step out of the factors you have embedded into your mind that the world is such a predicable with an smart mind of yours. We all know an unread book has more value than a book that is read. You know … i know a story about this turkey that thought life was just a everyday routine … living in the farm, eat as scheduled for years, all as planned … until thanks giving day come along. =

Two person with management degree does not have two same outcome in this real world. There is no straight line approach on this. It always been our gamble in which course we choose. A son of a hotel owner might get into it because of his leverage, a daughter opposing her parent decision by choosing management instead of medical degree just to stay in the country with her bf , a guy who thought it will be a easy degree, a person passionate about hotel business, a person overheard hotel manager earns big money… so many variable.

The threads I created is something to make me motivated and basically ‘grow up’. Thanks

rabbitx, I love that analogy!!!

Anyway, I am still considering to take an off-campus or part time studies for a management degree. Seems like I really have to learn. A LOT.

To get somewhere, you need to learn. dont think tt u got some degree, then u think u can become instant manager.

I got one supervisor with management degree from Aust. An instant supervisor with a title “senior xxxxx” but totally useless… as a lower rank staff in office, i had to teach him the job… so call my boss, senior.

to me u got that ■■■■ of paper, no used. u oso need to proof that you can perform the job as well. im only a spm… which can teach a degree holder… what a shame to my useless supervisor…

Yeah I know exactly how that feels man, been in that situation before. That’s why I realized, paper qualifications is a significant asset because like it or not people judge you by that. Things get more ‘convenient’ too, if you know what I mean.

Oh I just visited Curtin, they don’t have off-campus studies, and the only part time studies they offer is MBA. Oh well, I’ll check out the others…
