MIRI: Police intensified the war against cyber gambling in the state with four raids conducted in Marudi, Miri and Bintulu on Wednesday.

This was revealed by state head of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) SAC Dev Kumar in a press statement yesterday.

The first raid of a snooker centre at Jalan Kapitan Lim Ching Kiat, Marudi was conducted around 11.40am, led by ASP Mohd Ruslan Mat Kib.

Seven computer tablets used for cyber gambling and RM762 cash were seized.

An 18 year-old youth found on the premises was arrested.

Later that day, around 5.45pm, a team of police led by Inspector Koay Kok Ping raided a shoplot in Tudan, Miri.

They seized 16 computers and wifi equipment used for online gambling. A 22-year-old female caretaker of the gambling den and six customers, aged 20 to 45 years old were arrested and seized RM210 cash from the counter, Dev Kumar revealed.

In Bintulu, a CID team from the district, led by Inspector Luqman Hakim Yusop, raided a karaoke premises at Tanjong Kidurong around 4pm.

“This place was offering top-up services for customers without credit cards to access certain online gambling websites,” Dev Kumar said.

A laptop, mobile phone and tablets were seized.

“We also seized a poster advertising this top-up service and RM115 cash,” said Dev Kumar.

A 19-year-old youth suspected of providing the service was arrested at the counter.

Around 8.15pm that evening, the same team from CID Bintuli raided a sundry mart at Tanjong Kidurong, Bintulu on suspiction of proving top-up services for online gambling.

They seized a laptop, wifi equipment, online gambling top-up cards, posters advertising the top-up services and RM550.

An 18-year-old female suspected of providing the service was arrested at the counter.

Dev Kumar advised shop owners in the state to stop selling top-up cards of web-based top-up services as they were promoting online gambling, which was illegal in the country.

“Police will continue to conduct raids at outlets providing these services to discourage people from wasting their money on online gambling,” he warned.
