MIRI: The Orang Ulu villagers of Long San in upper Baram thank the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for fulfilling its promise of building a road to their villages.

Long San village security and development committee (JKKK) secretary Romulus Charles Agan said the project to build the 550-metre road started last Saturday and was expected to be completed in three to four months depending on weather conditions.

“Villagers are pleased with the project as they are in dire need of a road. Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau announced the project during his meeting with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Wanita Long San early this year,” Romulus said yesterday.

He said the road will benefit over 1,000 villagers, two schools – SK St Pius with 300 pupils and SMK Temenggong Datuk Lawai Jau with 600 students.

Currently, he said the contractor was laying 12 culverts to drain out stagnant water from a stream before doing earth filling with gravel and laying cement.

He said the villagers also thanked Dennis for pursuing the road project.
