MIRI: A boat ferrying a group of university students in the Loagan Bunut National Park in interior northern Sarawak has capsized in a lake.

At least two students — believed to be Nigerians — are still missing.

The Fire and Rescue Department have deployed search and rescue teams to the site to look for the victims.

“The students are said to have gone missing late Sunday night.

“This morning, we received the call for help from the national park office,” said Miri department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

According to initial reports, six Curtin University Sarawak students and the boat’s skipper who were on board the vessel when it capsized.

The students are believed to have been on an expedition to study crocodiles and wildlife in the park.

Four of the students and the skipper were found by villagers while two others are still missing.

Loagan Bunut is about five hours by land and boat from Marudi town, which is about two hours by land from Miri city.
