MIRI, Aug 12 (Bernama) – Miri city the first non-capital town to be elevated as city status in the country, will organise two year-end events to kick start the launching of Visit Miri Year 2018 (VMY2018).
Miri City mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said the two events would be held on Dec 30 and 31 at Marina Parkcity here with various cultural showcase, fireworks, bazaar and new year eve countdown.
“Over 50,000 people, including local and foreign visitors, are expected to attend the events,” he said in a statement here today. Miri City Council (MCC) will spearhead the planning of VMY2018 events.
The statement was issued after Yii chaired the first VMY2018 organising meeting yesterday with more than 80 representatives from government departments and agencies, community associations, tourism related organisations and commercial premises owners.
As such, Yii said a blue print for the comprehensive programme to be implemented during VMY2018 that included a calendar of events for 2018, production of ?sea horse? souvenir items as Miri City’s official mascot and buildings repainting for the approval of the relevant authorities would be submitted soon…
