Tour Of Sarawak expected to attract one million people

KUCHING: Almost one million people are expected to see the Tour Of Sarawak (TOS) 2016 involving nine locations from 16-20 March.

Director of Side Event Tour Of Sarawak, Ahmad Fauzi Yusof said the race, themed ‘Race Close To Nature’ involved nine locations namely Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman, Serian, Sematan and Kuching.

According to him, the tour will involve a total distance of 787.5 kilometres to be participated by 20 teams vieing for the Overall, Mountain King, Sprint King and Malaysian Rider titles.

“The race will start from Miri and ends in Kuching. We anticipate a lively response from both locals and foreign tourists, as there are various programmes that we will hold during carnival held throughout the tour.

“Among the activities to be held are agencies exhibition, a ‘bermukun’ competition, busking competition, TOS16 Mini Race, Jewel Kid’s Fun Race and much more.

“There will also be programmes that will attract visitors such as health checks, blood donation programmes, exhibitions and information by government agencies and others,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad Fauzi said the organisation of the Tour Of Sarawak is expected to help increase income of traders because every venue of the tour will attract tourists and locals alike.

He said that the success of the programme will have an impact on the development of Sarawak particularly in economy, infrastructure and the tourism industry.

He added that the support of government agencies and the corporate sector as well as the leaders make the Tour Of Sarawak quite successful and beneficial to all parties.

“The strength of support from all the government agencies involved, including the full support from the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Adenan Satem will be the catalyst to make the race runs smoothly.

“We are confident that the best support and cooperation of all divisions’ resident offices, district officers, local political leaderships, community leaders and relevant departments will contribute towards the presence of more visitors from the surrounding areas of the event venues,” he said.
