PETALING JAYA: Another newspaper, Berita Petang Sarawak, has been suspended for publishing the caricature of Prophet Muhammad.
Berita Petang is the third newspaper, after Sarawak Tribune and Guang Ming Daily, to face Government action for publishing the offensive caricature.
The Internal Security Ministry said in a statement yesterday that the daily newspaper, published by Berita Petang Sarawak Sdn Bhd, had received a two-week suspension from today until March 11 for committing an offence under the Printing Presses & Publications Act 1984.
The decision was made after Berita Petang Sarawak published an article entitled We are prepared for the jihad war on Feb 4, which contained the caricature, it stated.
Berita Petang Sarawak is the sole Chinese evening newspaper in Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.
Established in 1972, it is printed in Kuching and has offices in Sri Aman and Sibu.
