Teenage boy dies in plantation workers' quarters fire

MIRI: A 14-year-old boy died in a fire that burned down a workers’ housing-quarters in a rural plantation in Lawas in northernmost Sarawak.

The fire at about 9.40am on Monday happened at the plantation located in Sunda Terusan on the outskirts of Lawas district.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in its latest updates said Bomba units rushed to the site after receiving an alert.

The fire-fighters rushed to douse the flames but the fire had razed 90 percent of the building.

A search of the rubble conducted by the firefighters found the charred remains in what was the bathroom, said Bomba Sarawak.

The victim has been identified as a 14-yr old boy.

There were no other workers in the quarters during the fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, said Bomba Sarawak.
