A 42-year-old Taiwanese man with a history of high blood pressure has died of a stroke likely triggered by over-excitement from watching the blockbuster “Avatar” in 3D, a doctor said Tuesday.
The man, identified only by his surname Kuo, started to feel unwell during the screening earlier this month in the northern city of Hsinchu and was taken to hospital.
Kuo, who suffered from hypertension, was unconscious when he arrived at the Nan Men General Hospital and a scan showed that his brain was haemorrhaging, emergency room doctor Peng Chin-chih said.
“It’s likely that the over-excitement from watching the movie triggered his symptoms,” he told AFP.
Kuo died 11 days later from the brain haemorrhage, and the China Times newspaper said it was the first death linked to watching James Cameron’s science-fiction epic “Avatar”.

u are so mean … people dead and you are making fun of it…~.~
i think… it may be the conditions in the cinema … at the age of 43… if he isnt used to constant loud noise in an enclosed room with full crowd, and also such a lengthy movie (3 hours)… some people has an adverse reaction that cause by vision and balance… anything appear out of normal confuses the brain and cause the person feel ill vomiting and etc… so… his condition may be combination of all…
some cinema has less of oxygen cause problem to those with health problems i.e. high blood pressure and aneurysm…
he had pre medical condition la… :?
air quality in the cinema is very2 bad! i used to sit close to the projector and can see many particles moving through the projection light. what happened if a person cough? the particles will moves around in the cinema for the period of 2 hrs.
As Talindra said, not enough oxygen supply also could be leading to his pre med condition.
