Taib praises Chinese for playing important role in socio-economic development

MIRI: The Chinese have always shown unwavering loyalty to the state and country besides playing a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Sarawak and Malaysia, said Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud (pic).

The Sarawak Governor paid tribute to the Chinese community adding that the nation would not be what it is today without them.

Speaking at a grand Chinese New Year dinner organised by the Chinese associations in Miri on Sunday night, Taib said no one can deny the fact that the Chinese have contributed enormously to every sector of development.

They have also been central in helping to uphold racial and religious harmony, he said.

“The Chinese people are an integral part of our state and country.

“Without them we will not be as prosperous as we are today in Sarawak and Malaysia. The impact they have made in social and economic growth is there for all to see.

“Aside from that, the Chinese people have always been loyal to the state and federal government. That is also a fact that we can all see,” he said.

Taib added that he is pleased to see that the Chinese are playing an active role in government administration. He further urged them to continue keeping faith in the leadership.

Taib also praised the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

He said that Adenan had performed very well in leading Sarawak during the three years he was chief minister.

“We feel sad over his demise but he has left a legacy for every other future leader in Sarawak to emulate,” said Taib.
