MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Miri and Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee will be organising its’ first Sarawak Independence Day countdown at Miri City Council (MCC) field on July 21.
Organising chairman Adam Yii Siew Sang when contacted yesterday said the countdown would commemorate Sarawak’s Independence Day, which falls on July 22.
July 22 has been declared as a public holiday for the state of Sarawak by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem in April this year.
“We are expecting at least 10,000 crowd, especially Sarawakians, to be on MCC field on the night of July 21.
“The programme will kick off at 7pm with various performances from local bands to entertain the public,” he said.
Adam added that the committee had also lined up various cultural performances that would showcase the diversity of Sarawak to visitors.
There would also be stalls selling various types of local delicacies to visitors.
“The highlight of the event will be the countdown itself. There will be fireworks display at midnight,” he pointed out.
