MIRI: Those working away from their hometowns should make the effort to return to their families for Chinese New Year.
Miri mayor Adam Yii said there is nothing more important than family.
“Your career and making money can never replace the family,” he said in his CNY message.
“On behalf of myself, my family, the Miri City Council and Pujut SUPP branch, I take this opportunity to extend my heartiest Chinese New Year greetings to everyone.
“This year is very important for everyone in view of the challenging economic situation and the coming parliamentary elections in Sarawak.
“I would like to urge Miri folk to always focus on the family and prioritise them by returning home.
“Love in the family must be strengthened in order to overcome the difficulties and challenges we will face in 2018.”
Yii said they should take advantage of the long CNY break to spend quality time with loved ones.
Foster closer ties, renew friendships and forgive any wrongs or hurts, he said.
“We must develop this sort of total love in our homes.
“Ask God to journey with you and your family everyday.
“Strengthen your relationship with each other so that you will always be bonded by love,” he added.
“Last year was a difficult year in many ways and 2018 is going to be as challenging, he noted.
“To face these coming challenges, families must rely on their love for God and each other.
“And of course, take good care of your health by being careful with food and drinks.
“For those travelling long distances on the road and rivers, exercise all the necessary safety precautions.
“Try to avoid the last-minute rush so that you can be in a more relaxed and calm state during your journey. Drive slowly and reach home safely,” he said.
Yii said drivers must always be on alert when driving along roads that are currently undergoing upgrading and repairs especially along strethes of the Pan Borneo highway.
“It is my sincere hope that all of you will have a joyful CNY with your family and friends,” he said.
