Special children help out at nursing home

MIRI: The special children and staff of SK Pendidikan Khas Miri showed their caring side by helping to clean a nursing home here.

About 60 pupils and staff not only brought cheer to residents of Shangrila Nursing Home, they also helped to beautify their surroundings by cleaning the compound of the centre.

Headmaster Stanley Aba said through their involvement in charity work, the children who suffer from various physical and mental disabilities, would benefit physically, mentally and emotionally.

“Cultivating the spirit of volunteerism will make them more caring towards the needy.

“These outdoor events also provide an avenue for the teachers and pupils to work together as a team and exchange views,” he said.

SK Pendidikan Khas Miri is one of two schools in Miri catering to the education needs of special children.

“We have pupils who are blind, deaf, Down Syndrome and those with learning disabilities,” said Aba.
