Somerset Hotel wins ERTs obstacle drill

MIRI: Strong teamwork, consistency and determination had helped Somerset Hotel beat off nine other teams to emerge winner in the 400-Foot Dry Obstacle Drill category of the recent Bomba Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) Efficiency Drill Zone 6 Miri Competition.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, its managing director Paul Pui lauded the teams success, saying their high team spirit was the main factor for their victory.

As our team of merely six people took on a task which is usually done by 12 people against strong teams from other private companies, we were surprised when informed of the outcome. It shall be a great motivation for our staff to train harder, he said.

Pui also praised their general manager Jocelyn Hee and Food and Beverage (F&B) supervisor Lawrence Kong for their efficient leadership and management which he believed had contributed to the success.

Our hotel has only over 20 employees who have been working with us for more than 15 years in various departments.

Despite being a small team, I am certainly overwhelmed by the multi-tasking ability shown by my team members, as well as their great attitude in helping each other in their daily tasks.

Pui revealed that to credit them for their accomplishment, he would give them a surprise, which he would announce later.

It was said that the Somerset Hotel team led by Kong managed to train for only a week prior to the competition.

Held at Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station on December 6, the annual competition saw the participation of 10 private companies.
