Soldier missing after jump found dead

MALACCA: A soldier who went missing after jumping into the sea from a helicopter during a training session was found dead at Pantai Puteri in Tanjung Kling here yesterday.

Sjn Nasarrudin Mat Napiah, 34, from the army camp in Gemas, Negri Sembilan, was among a group of some 100 soldiers undergoing a month-long training programme scheduled to end today.

He had jumped from the aircraft yesterday morning from a height of 3m into waters some 2.5m deep but did not surface like the others.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Johari Yahaya said a missing person’s report was lodged at the Tanjung Kling police station at 9.35am.

Sjn Nasarrudin’s body was recovered at 5.15pm. Also recovered was his Steyr rifle.

Probably forgot he couldn’t swim.

Ian, every soldiers are trained to swim with all gear and heavy pack (somethings that civilian find it hard to do). Maybe his head or his spinal bones struck something hard during the jump. From 3 meter jump you’ll enter the water as such you’re hitting a floor.

And to my great respect, he still have his rifle with him.
