ello everyone…actually im a new member in this forum and im from west moving here for outstation project…what is suprise me, when i went to fish market i saw they sell ‘kerang’ or cockle or blood clamp or what so ever they call with RM8-9/kg…wOw it so so expensive if compared to west is bout RM1-1.50/kg…i just wonder why this ‘kerang’ is so expensive in miri…?
people who sell ‘kerang’ have to import it from sabah or semenanjung because we dont have people who breed this ‘anak kerang’ here…it’s long time already the price within rm8-9/kg…
that’s why you won’t find any of this seafood in our kolomee, laksa…like in west Malaysia. Because it’s always expensive here. But the ketam here is very cheap compare to there, around RM12++/kg only compare to RM20++ there.
not sure why… but i think the lack of mangrove forests in Miri could be a reason.
crabs are cheap… but looking at the size of crabs in Miri… they are nowhere close to the ones found in west malaysia or sabah.
however, fish are in abundance and fresh fish in miri are just wonderful, albeit slightly expensive. but the sellers normally clean them for you no matter what size yr fish is… this won;t happen in west malaysia
dun eat kerang la.
they are filter eater.
they can filter even virus so if they live in a polluted water, u’ll get sick.
u wont notice the different bcos the kerang itself is not affect by the pollutant.
seafood alwez mahal here la
