The proud debaters with their trophies.
MIRI: SMK Lutong (SMKL) achieved another milestone with its victory in the state-level English Debate Competition held recently in Serian.
The debate team was represented by Amanda Dina Michael Nangkai, Amitha Praveen Karunakaran, Catherine Alicia Nathan, Mary Beth Conrad Majanil and Anne Marie Iva Paul.
They won over several formidable opponents from other districts, including SMK St Joseph from Kuching, SMK Sungai Maong from Padawan and SMK Sungai Tapang from Samarahan, to finally advance to the finals and be up against SMK St Anthony from Sarikei.
The Miri team was on the opposition side for the final motion, ‘The House would severely limit companies’ ability to workers with technology’ and they took home the achievement when the motion was rejected.
“The debaters are now advancing to the national-level English debate competition at Universiti Teknologi Mara Dengkil, Selangor.
“They are set to go up against the Perlis team for the first round, and I hope they would continue to be victorious and bring home another success,” a spokeswoman told The Borneo Post yesterday.
This event runs from today till May 12.
