SMK Kidurong team champion in contest

MIRI: Team ‘Kami Legasi Budaya’ of SMK Kidurong, Bintulu emerged champion in a local heritage contest (Pertandingan Warisan Budaya Tempatan) 2016 organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak here.

The annual competition held for the ninth time attracted six teams from secondary schools in the northern region.

The main objective of the contest was to encourage students to learn the correct and proper techniques of locating and gathering information in order to create a complete and comprehensive project paper or report.

The skills of planning, collecting, recording, analysing,interpreting, synthesising, summarising as well as presenting the information are essential especially for students in institutions of higher learning.

By participating in the Information Literacy Skills Programme organised b y Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri alongside with the guidance and teachings by professional lecturers and librarians, the participants will be exposed to printed and non-printed information resources; assisting them in researching on local contents such as history, relics, indigenous communities, cultures, social-economics and other topics.

This year, the secondary school students were asked to do a research on ‘Treasured Heirlooms of the Ethnic Groups in Northern Region Of Sarawak’.

As champion ‘Kami Legasi Budaya’ team with their winning entry entitled, ‘Baju Buri’e Warisan Tinggalan Budaya Kaum Iban,’ received RM1,000 and certificates of achievement while teams that successfully completed their projects received RM200 and certificates.

The ‘Kami Legasi Budaya’ team comprises Beatrice Unie Robert, Angievilaa Anis Lanyau, Lediawati Amrose Igoh and Ellyviana Mulla Nakan. The guidance teacher for the team, Miah Uka won the Best Teacher/Advisor Award.

The prizes were handed over by librarian, Ahmad Samsudin.
