Sibu half marathon offers attractive prizes

SIBU: Prizes worth RM25,000 await the winners in the Sarawak Jubilee Park Half Marathon 2007 this May 13.

Sibu Marathon Sports Club (SMSC) president Tang Kah Seng told reporters after its 18th annual general meeting (AGM) at a local restaurant on Saturday that Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh would flag off the race at Bukit Aup Jubilee Park.

Tang also said the race was jointly organised by SMSC, Ministry of Tourism and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

About 1,000 entry forms have been taken so far and 180 had been returned to us. Out of the number, 17 are from Kuching, Kapit - 14, Miri - 2, Bintulu - 3, Bintangor - 1, Sabah - 1, Brunei 1, and Sibu - 141, he said.

There are nine categories - Mens Open (21km), Ladies Open (21km), Mens Veteran (21km), Ladies Veteran (4km), Boys Junior (4km), Girls Junior (4km), Mens 450m, Ladies 450m and Family Run (three persons).

The champions in the Mens Open and Ladies Open as well as the Mens Veteran would each receive RM800, a trophy and Vico products. The first runner-up will get RM600, a trophy and Vico products, while the second runner-up will take home RM500, a trophy and Vico products.

As for the fourth and fifth placings, they will receive RM400 and RM300 respectively and take home medals and Vico products.

A prize of RM200 each awaits runners who finish between sixth and eighth positions, and RM100 each for those between 9th and 20th.

For the Ladies Open and Mens Veteran the participants who finished in 21st until 25th places will get RM50 and a medal each, while RM20 each will be given to participants from 26th to 40th.

In the Mens Open, RM50 each will be given to joggers who finish in 21st to 30th. For the joggers in 31st and 50th, they will get RM20 each.

All finishers will receive a participation certificate each.

The champions in the Boys Junior and Girls Junior categories will be rewarded with RM100, a trophy and Vico products, while the second and third runners-up will take home RM80 and RM70, respectively, as well as a trophy and Vico products.

Apart from winning a medal and Vico products each, those in fourth and fifth will also get RM60 and RM50 respectively. Runners in sixth to 10th positions will get RM40 and a medal each.

Participants who finish in 11th up to 20th will get RM20 and a medal each, and RM10 will go to those in 21st till 50th positions.

The runner in 51st to 70th placings will receive RM5 each.

For the Ladies Veteran, the first, second and third placings will receive RM100, RM80 and RM70 respectively. Each one will also receive a trophy, RM20 and a medal. Fourth and fifth placing get RM60 and RM50 respectively and also a medal.

Those from sixth till 20th places will receive RM20 each, and those from 21st till 30th places will get RM30 each.

Mens and Ladies Relay champions will be rewarded with RM300 and Vico products. The first and second runner-up will walk away with RM280 and RM240, respectively, and also a trophy and Vico products. Prizes also will be given to the fourth till the 20th placings.

The Family Run champion will receive RM300, while the second and third placings will take RM280 and RM240 respectively plus Vico products. Prizes will also be given to those in fourth until 15th places.

A sum of RM100 will be given to the eldest and youngest in the 21km distance and RM50 will be for the youngest in the four-km run.

The first 1,000 runners will each get a free singlet.
