Seven nabbed in ‘Ops Ikrar Selera’

MIRI: The Miri Immigration Department detained seven illegal immigrants from Indonesia in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Ikrar (Selera)’ at an eatery here last Tuesday morning.

The department, in a press statement, said that in the operation at 10.00am by a team led by a senior officer from the Operation Unit at Lot 1340 MCLD, a total of 16 individuals including 9 Indonesians were inspected.

Of the figure, seven of them, comprising four men, three women, were detained under 11(7)(a) of Immigration Regulations, 1963 for abusing their social visit passes.

At the same time, an individual believed to be owner of the eatery was also detained, but later released on police bail.

The operation was concluded at 11.00am and all the arrested immigrants were taken to the Immigration Detention Depot in Bekenu for further investigation.
