Series of HRDF-approved seminars to be held in Sarawak

A series of business seminars are coming to Kuching and Miri.

KUCHING: A series of high quality Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) approved seminars is coming to Sarawak.

The federal government is expected to table Budget 2020 in just a few days. Under the new budget, there might be several changes that may impact businesses in Malaysia.

For that, SST2U offers seminars on topics like ‘Budget 2020 & SST 2.0’ (in Mandarin), ‘Employment Law & HR Documentation’, ‘Companies Act’, ‘Withholding Tax’ and also ‘Cash Flow Management’ courses at Hilton Kuching and Miri Marriott Resort & Spa.

In Kuching, ‘Developing Human Resource Documentations’ will be held on Nov 1. The Ministry of Human Resources, in 2018 and 2019, has proposed a list of successful amendments and impending changes to a few of employment-related Acts and Regulations to provide wider coverage of protections for employees.

Therefore, it is crucial that anyone involved in Human Resource Management, Employees Supervision and Payroll, to be aware of the basic interpretations of the Labour Laws and also the documentation.

On Nov 2, also in Kuching, ‘Applications of Employment Act with Implications of Latest Amendments’ will be held.

The other seminar in Kuching is the Budget 2020 & SST 2.0 seminar, which will be held on Nov 27. SST 2.0 has been in operation since September 2018, and the Budget 2020 may bring changes to indirect tax and SST 2.0. These newly introduced mechanisms may be implemented from January 2020. This seminar offers eight hours of continuing professional development (CPD).

Meanwhile in Miri, there will be a seminar titled ‘Compliance with Companies Act 2016 & Director’s Responsibilities’ to be held on Oct 21.

Companies Act 2016 has already come into effect in January 2017, and it is critical for professionals and the business community to diligently ensure compliance with the new procedures.

The penalties for non-compliance with the new Companies Act may be severe for the directors, employees, auditors, company secretaries and professionals, which include hefty fines and possible imprisonment. There could be updates in the forthcoming Budget 2020.

Also in Miri, ‘Managing Cash Flow in Difficult Times’ will be held on Oct 24. This too comes with eight CPD hours.

The last seminar for Miri is on Nov 22, titled ‘Withholding Tax in Malaysia – Principles, Issues & Challenges’. Withholding tax is an area that companies often overlook but it cannot be ignored because payment to non-residents for their services or use of their properties is becoming more common.

These seminars by professional speakers with years of experience are to shed light on many of these business issues and a must-attend for accountants, tax personnel, business owners and directors.

Fees start from RM430 per person, which includes course notes, lunch, tea breaks and e-cert. All courses are fully HRDF claimable.
