Firemen seen speaking to the senior citizen at the bottom of the drain.
MIRI: A senior citizen was fortunate to be alive after he fell seven feet through an uncovered drain hole in front of a petrol station along Miri-Pujut Road early yesterday.
The victim, who is in his 60s, was discovered by chance by members of the public passing through the area around 7am, leading to immediate calls to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Miri Hospital for help.
Bomba zone chief Law Poh Kiong said the department’s personnel were rushed to the scene following a distress call received at 7.09am.
“The victim is believed to have fallen into an uncovered hole of the concrete drain while walking in the area. Bomba personnel first helped to stabilise the victim before lifting him out of the drain,” he said.
The victim was transported to Miri Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
