Senator: Pakatan fighting for affordable housing for Sarawakians

MIRI: Sarawak will be getting its fair share of the 100,000 units of affordable housing that will be built by the Pakatan Harapan government, says Sarawak Pakatan secretary Senator Alan Ling Sie Kiong.

He said that a blueprint is being drawn up by the Housing and Local Government Ministry in Putrajaya on affordable housing needed in Sarawak.

The Sarawak DAP secretary said that the government’s target is to build 100,000 houses nationwide for the low and middle income group every year for the next 10 years.

“Sarawak will get its fair share. Sarawak Pakatan will fight and the interests of Sarawakians will be looked into by the federal government. I am already liasing with the Housing and Local Government Ministry in Putrajaya on this,” said Ling.

He said that statistics were being compiled, adding that the findings will be used to determine how many units will be built in Sarawak.

Ling said this at a press conference after a breaking-of-fast gathering at a hotel here on Friday (May 10) night.

He added that affordable housing was an issue of concern in Sarawak as many still do not own their own homes due to the high cost of home ownership, especially for the lower and middle income group.
