MIRI: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) is currently in the process of implementing six new 33KV substations throughout the city.
Its regional manager (Northern Region) Choo Min Chong said the substations had been identified; at Curtin, Permyjaya, Taman Tunku, Jee Foh (Krokop), Piasau and Marina.
“The work at Permyjaya has been completed and will be commissioned for service early next year. The substation at Taman Tunku will be completed by end of next year while the one at Jee Foh is still in progress.
“We are still scouting for suitable sites to put up the substations at Piasau and Marina. For the project at Curtin, we are in the process of negotiation,” he told the media after a briefing with Miri City Council (MCC) on Miri Electricity System Development at the council’s premises yesterday.
Choo admitted that SEB had received frequent complaints from members of the public on power breakdowns at residential areas as well as the street lighting.
