Scrap iron collector jailed for trespassing

MIRI: A Magistrates’ Court here yesterday sentenced a scrap iron collector to two weeks in jail for trespassing.

Magistate Zuraini Ali Musa convicted Irwan Junaidi, 35, from Kampung Lereng Bukit on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.

The Section provides for up to six months in jail, or maximum fine of RM3,000, or both.

Based on facts of the case, Irwan trespassed into the compound of a property in Shang Garden belonging to Nura Barang at 9am on Tuesday (March 12).

In mitigation, Irwan pleaded for leniency as this was his first offence.

He also told the court he had assumed the house was unoccupied when he went in to hunt for scrap metal.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted the case, while Irwan was not represented by counsel.
