MIRI: The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) Colour Rush Run will be held simultaneously here and in Kuching on Sunday (Nov 10) at 6am.
It was originally scheduled for Sept 15 in Kuching and Sept 22 here, but was postponed due to the haze.
In Kuching, the run will be at Saradise Kuching while the venue here is at Boulevard Shopping Mall’s parking lot.
“We anticipate all registered participants as well as avid runners to join us on our awareness run in the effort to raise public awareness on childhood cancer,” said society president Jocelyn Hee in a press release yesterday.
The annual 5km run seeks to celebrate the courage, resiliency, and strength of children and adolescents with cancer.
It also highlights the importance of expressing support for children and adolescents with cancer, survivors, and their families.
“We are looking forward to encourage younger participants in the effort to demonstrate more understanding and empathy towards children with cancer,” said Hee.
Every year, approximately 300,000 children and adolescents aged 19 and below are diagnosed with cancer worldwide.
In Sarawak, approximately 70 children are diagnosed with cancer each year.
Last year, SCCS assisted over 60 new childhood cancer patients across Sarawak.
