MIRI: The International Convention Scholarship Award (ICSA) is entering its ninth year and Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) is in search of Sarawak’s next group of convention ambassadors.

SCB Head of Industry Development, Dylan Redas Noel said the award is open to all Sarawakians or residents of Sarawak over 18 years of age from educational institutions, private companies or government departments, and students of tertiary institutions with support from their universities or colleges.

The choice of convention must rotate among different destinations and has the possibility of being hosted in Malaysia, he disclosed.

“Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to RM10,000 to be used to fund their travel, accommodation, association membership and convention registration fee to attend the approved international convention of their choice.

“The application will close on 31st July 2016 for conventions to be held between September 2016 and December 2017,” he said.

Last year, four people were awarded the scholarship to attend the various conventions across the globe, namely, Dr Lai Mee Huong from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak – World Psychiatric Association International Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, Jason Chew from Event Horizon – ICESAP Annual Conference 2016, Dr Ho Poh Ling from Curtin University Sarawak – 61st Annual ICSB World Conference in New York, USA, and Dr Lau Bik Liang from Sarawak General Hospital, Ministry of Health – Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, USA.

“The previous winners had returned with a wealth of knowledge. Some of them had also successfully bid and won for conventions in Sarawak that had been successfully held. Others are currently involving in bidding for future conferences.

“We hope this will continue to showcase the benefits and opportunities of attending international conventions and nurture future convention hosts for Sarawak,” Noel added.
