MIRI: A search-and-rescue (SAR) operation has been launched to find a 79-year-old man, who was reported missing in the rural part of Tinjar/Baram early yesterday.

Marudi Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) mounted the operation following the report of the missing septuagenarian lodged by his family at Long Lama police station.

“A team of four personnel from the Marudi station was despatched to the scene (near Rumah Jemat in Sungai Sebatu) on board a four-wheel drive vehicle (4WD) at 8.30am. It took them three hours and 30 minutes to reach the place.

“The SAR focuses on areas within a 6km radius from where his (missing man) footprints were found, which were near a river,” said Bomba Marudi in a statement.

The SAR team also found a rattan basket, a cap and house keys belonging to the septuagenarian near the footprints.
