Safe to use Miri GrabCar services

MIRI: The public here have been given an assurance that it is safe to use GrabCar services despite rumours of rivalry following an attack against a Grabcar driver.

Sarawak CID Chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Dev Kumar said the attack on July 1 was an isolated incident and the matter had been contained.

“Based on investigations, claims that the attack was due to rivalry between GrabCar and taxi drivers are not true.

“Do not worry (to use the Grabcar services),” he said in a statement.

The police have arrested a group of youths for allegedly assaulting the 26-year-old GrabCar driver in the EMart Tudan Commercial Centre in Kuala Baram, 20km from here.

Six men, including a 19-year-old youth, were arrested at various locations in Miri over the past 48 hours.

“Police have arrested six suspects in Miri on July 7 and 8 and today we have remanded them for four days for further probe into the motive for the attack,” SAC Dev said.
