MIRI: Telang Usan Saberkas Branch will continue to recruit more youth to join as it aims to reach a membership of 3,000 within three years from now.
Telang Usan Assemblyman Dennis Ngau said as the largest youth organisation in Sarawak where members comprise all races could be a platform to expand knowledge and other aspects of life.
“Saberkas could be a platform to expand and change knowledge towards better future,” he said at the opening of Telang Usan Saberkas branch triennial general meeting (TGM ) last sunday.
At the meeting Dennis was reelected unopposed as chairman of Telang Usan Saberkas for the next three years. Dennis is also currently holding Assistant Secretary-General for state Saberkas.
Dennis further said that Saberkas today had also evolved around time and focused more on leadership, youth training, modern farming and others.
“It’s a far cry from Saberkas in the early forming years where members got involved more in old school farming like planting long beans, ladies’ fingers or rearing chicken,” he added.
Resolution was also passed to open up new units especially for Penan members around Sungai Layun, Patah, Apoh and Tutoh plus also to form units at longhouses in addition to the current six units.
