KUCHING: Sarawak Energy hosted a breaking of fast event for about 500 guests from the state and federal government agencies, NGOs, media and representatives from charity organisations, mosques and surau at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.

Led by Puan Aisah Eden, the Group’s Executive Vice President for Corporate Services and accompanied by the company’s senior management team, the event also saw the presentation of assistance to various mosques and madrasahs and presentation of duit raya to orphans and senior citizens from welfare homes.

“Sarawak Energy supports programmes and events that promote inclusiveness to show our respect for the different cultures of our 4,300 strong workforce.

“As part of this, we try to celebrate or recognise major festivals. Today, we commemorate the Islamic holy month of Ramadan as a gesture of solidarity and appreciation to our stakeholders in the community as well as our Muslim staff,” said Puan Aisah in her welcome speech.

Sarawak Energy also supports various community and charity efforts with under privileged children and senior citizens during Ramadan and Christmas, organised by staff bodies such as the Persatuan Kesatuan Pekerja Islam and the Sarawak Energy Sports Club.

Meanwhile, various stakeholders were invited to breakfast together with members of the management team as a gesture of appreciation for their supports and cooperations.

“This is also our way of saying thank you for the assistance rendered all this while and at the same time, this event serves as an avenue for us to forge closer ties with those we work with and to give back to the less fortunate in the community who need assistance the most,” Aisah added.

Similar event had been held in Miri, Sibu and Sri Aman to be followed by Lawas and Bintulu.
