RM32 Million Needed To Address Sebuyau Flood Problem

KUCHING, Feb 9 (Bernama) – A sum of RM32 million is needed to address the problem of floods brought on by king tides in Sebuyau, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the location of the town at the mouth of the Batang Lupar and close to the South China Sea raised the risk of floods during the high-tide phenomenon.

“Based on an evaluation of the Sarawak Drainage and Irrigation Department, RM32 million is required to address the problem including building a seawall,” he said at a press conference in Kampung Buntal, Santubong, near here today.

Also present was the director-general of the Drainage and Irrigation Department Datuk Md Nasir Md Noh.

Wan Junaidi said several other areas were also at risk of floods during high tides, such as Muara Tebas and Kampung Buntal in Kuching, and Lundu, Mukah and Miri…
