MIRI: Women play equally important role in contributing to the wellbeing of people in the state’s rural areas like Telang Usan.
Its assemblyman Dennis Ngau thanked the women particular those from PBB Telang Usan women’s wing for continuously helping him to address the welfare and interest of people in the constituency.
“The BN victory in Telang Usan and other constituencies in the last state election was due to the hard work of our ladies.
“They are the soldiers and the bedrocks. I believe the party’s main body and the youth wing in Telang Usan agree with me. Not forgetting the support from other BN component parties – Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) – to make things happen,” he said in his address at the launching of Squad Sayang Telang Usan here on Friday.
Dennis, who is also the chairman of the PBB Telang Usan branch, said he became involved in politics because he wanted to help the community.
“Helping the people has been my principle and with that strong commitment I always give my best to the people.
“I don’t even mind forking from my own pockets to help youths run their programmes. I can feel the satisfaction when we have managed to tackle the people’s problems.”
On Squad Sayang Telang Usan, he hoped it would be able to also address poverty faced by the people in his constituency.
“Telang Usan is the most challenging area in the state because of the many challenges such as high rate of poverty, land dispute, disagreement between villages, slow physical and spiritual development, welfare and dispute over the appointment of community leaders.
“Thus, I am hoping that Squad Sayang will not only help in tackling the issue of welfare but also serve as another platform to bring the people together.”
He thus wanted more volunteers to join the activities to be arranged by Squad Sayang Telang Usan later on.
“There are more than 80 villages and longhouses in Telang Usan and I hope every villager, particularly the womenfolk, to become volunteers of the squad.
Squad Sayang Telang Usan was declared open on Friday by Minister of Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah who is also PBB deputy women chief.
A political secretary to chief minister and deputy chairman of PBB Telang Usan Charles Balan Seling, its women chief councillor Margaret Unding Nawan, advisor of Sarawak Federation Women Institute Datuk Ursula Goh and Temenggong Elizabeth Deng were among those present.
