MIRI: The vision and mission of a school could be achieved with assistance of the parent-teacher associations, says Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datu Dr Penguang Manggil.
“Parent-teacher association is a very important channel for schools to promote programmes in schools to ensure students learn in a conducive environment and succeed in their studies,” he said when officiating at the 10th SMK Riam appreciation ceremony at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club here recently.
Penguang stressed education is an important channel for turning a hard life into a better one.
“Students are still young and have the opportunity to change their destiny. Young people have the energy to work hard. When there’s a will, there’s a way,” he pointed out.
Penguang commended the school for holding the appreciation ceremony to celebrate the excellent performance of Form 5 students in academic and co-curriculum activities this year.
“This proves that strong moral support given to the school and Form 5 students in particular helped them to be more motivated and committed to academic and co-curricular excellence,” said Penguang.
“Our support will inspire the students and school to continue working hard to ensure our children could learn better and instil a sense of belonging,” he added.
He also called for the local community to continue supporting programmes implemented by SMK Riam parent-teacher association.
Some 170 students who are sitting for SPM examination were celebrated at the event.
Others present were Mariam Monek representing Miri District Education Office (PPD), SMK Riam principal Normah Abdul Latiff and PTA chairman Alwi Mustapha.
