MIRI, Aug 28 (Bernama) – Police are to carry out anti-crime operations to ensure an incident-free Sarawak-level National Day 2017 celebration in Bintulu on Thursday.
Bintulu Police chief Supt Zailanni Amit said the operations would be targeted at drug addicts and traffickers and pick-pockets as well as traffic offenders including illegal motorcycle racers.
“An operation will also be carried out against people who are likely to cause disturbances, such as coming with posters and placards bearing words of a defamatory or seditious nature and firing crackers illegally,” he said in a statement today.
Zailanni said 537 policemen would be deployed on Thursday to ensure a smooth celebration.
Sarawak Public Utilities Minister Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi, who is also chairman of the celebration organising committee, said 80 contingents comprising over 3,000 people would take part in the parade at the Bintulu Civic Centre.
