Police: Sarawak gambling syndicates using teenage 'agents' to avoid detection

MIRI: Sarawak police have found evidence that illegal gambling syndicates are using teenagers to run online gambling premises.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Dev Kumar said the syndicates are using these “agents” as part of their new modus operandi to avert detection.

He said that during a raid on a house in Jalan Stampin in Kuching, six people, including a 16-year-old school dropout, were handling the online gambling operations.

"Investigations show that the six were agents employed by a syndicate.

“Over the past week, 55 suspects have been arrested in raids in 12 districts,” he said.

SAC Dev said more than RM11,000 in cash was seized as well as equipment used to run illegal gambling operations.
