MIRI: Police believe they have solved six house break-in cases in this city with the arrest of three suspects dubbed as ‘Ting’s Gang’ in the wee hours of Sept 4.

Miri acting police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the suspects aged 37, 40 and 16 were detained at two separate locations.

“The first two suspects – a male (aged 37) and a female (aged 40) – were arrested by detectives from Miri central police station (CPS) around 4.30am on Sunday morning near a store in Pujut Tanjung Batu,” he said.

Stanley disclosed this during a press conference held at CPS yesterday morning.

“At the time of the arrest, the suspects were in a car, and upon further inspection, the detectives found a laptop suspected to be stolen item,” he added.

Both suspects were later brought to CPS for questioning.

Further investigations on the two suspects led to the arrest of the third suspect, a 16 year-old, in a house at Piasau around 6am that same day.

“With the arrest of the third suspect, police have discovered and seized various items including 11 golf clubs, five wedding dresses, several electronic gadgets, four make-up sets, 90 face towels, one box of vape filter and many more,” said Stanley.

All seized items have been brought to CPS.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for trespassing or house break-in, an offence punishable with imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Stanley urged victims of break-in incidents to lodge police reports or come to the police station to identify their stolen items.

“We are urging victims (of this group) to come to the police station and lodge police reports so that we can proceed with the items’ identification and prosecute them (the suspects) in court,” he said.

All three suspects have previous criminal records for house break-ins.
