PMR and UPSR exams to be pushed back

PUTRAJAYA: Next years Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) exams, usually held in early October, will be pushed closer to the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams, which usually begins in the middle of November.

The Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) will be postponed by only a few weeks from its usual dates in early September.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, who announced this yesterday, added that the dates of the exams would be announced by the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate later.

Ive also gotten the agreement of the Schools Division for the final exams in schools to be postponed.

He also announced that about 80% of textbooks had been delivered to schools around the country.

I received a report from the Textbook Division that the supply of textbooks is going out according to schedule. We have backup supplies if there are not enough books, he told reporters after chairing the 2008 New School Term Committee meeting yesterday.

Under the 2008 Budget, all students will get free textbooks under the Textbook Loan Scheme from next year.
