PKR Baram drives on with rice, salt, sugar and clothes

MIRI: Eager to help more flood victims, PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) Baram are holding yet another donation campaign from today with Telang Usan Hotel as venue to receive public donations.

According to the deputy head of Welfare Bureau for PKR Baram, Dennis Along Along, the first two previous campaigns held on Jan 6 and Jan 24 were successful with overwhelming response from people in Baram.

This motivated us to embark on another one, the third in a series.

The public may deliver donations to Telang Usan Hotel starting (today) Feb 7, during office hours, he told a press conference at PKR Service Centre at Miri Waterfront commercial centre here yesterday.

To a question, Dennis said rice, salt and sugar were more preferable as they were the basic necessities.

Salt and sugar were urgent daily needs, while rice is paramount since many of the victims paddy fields perished in the floods, he added.

Meanwhile, the party acknowledged its heartfelt appreciation to the Merbau Group of Furniture for its substantial amount of donations to the flood victims in Baram and the villages upriver.

Dennis, who is also Baram PKR secretary, disclosed that the company donated 130 bags of used clothing worth RM10,000 – handed over to the party in Baram recently.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes all out to Merbau Group of Furniture for the hefty donation. On behalf of the flood victims, we hereby tender our great acknowledgement, he added.

The party also extended its special thanks and gratitude to Shell staff members and all who had donated in cash and kind from around Baram, Miri and other places.

Dennis reiterated that the third donation drive would be carried on till Feb 15.
