Perkim Miri gets nod for new complex

MIRI: The local Malaysian Muslims Welfare Organisation (Perkim) has identified a parcel of land here deemed suitable as the site for its proposed complex.

Branch chairman Sharifah Fatimah Tuanku Pauzi said it had received the approval to build the building on a 2.5-acre (one hectare) land in Senadin.

We finally have the green light from our headquarters to build a building that we can call our own, she announced during Perkim Miris 23rd annual general meeting (AGM) at a hotel here last Saturday.

However, she did not disclose other details of the project, apart that it would be built next to Senadin Mosque. She said with the completion of the building, it could be a permanent centre for members to hold their activities more smoothly.

Previously, our branch office was a very old house at Piasau Camp but due to safety reasons, we have stopped using it.

On this, we would like to thank Baitulmal Miri for allowing us to use its meeting room to conduct our activities all thiswhile.

Additionally, Sharifah Fatimah also called on Perkim members to continue giving their total support to various welfare-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs), urging them to serve with sincerity without asking anything in return.

This said, she also emphasised on the recruitment of more young blood to keep Perkim, as well as other NGOs, relevant and able to face challenges in this modern era.

We certainly need more young blood as future leaders to continue carrying on our mission, she added.
