PBB needs young leaders to remain relevant – Veteran member

Othman Ismail

MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), must do housekeeping to change the ‘dead wood’ or leaders with self interests in the party if it wants to survive in the next two rounds of state elections.

A veteran PBB member, Othman Ismail, said die-hard leaders, be they from the Pesaka or Bumiputera wings of PBB, must know when to go and give way to young, dynamic and

visionary leaders to make the party relevant with the changing times.

“PBB leaders must be sincere in fighting for our rights including MA63, oil and gas and territorial seas to be returned to Sarawak, and groom more young and dynamic party members to take the helm from veteran party leaders,” Othman told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said times change and with that, the new generation with new ideas must be absorbed into the party to ensure it remains relevant and continues to become the way of life for Sarawakians.

He said it is time to let the young leaders take over in order to drive the party to greater heights.

“There are many young people in towns, villages and longhouses who have not registered as PBB members yet. PBB leaders must be serious in doing a membership drive to bring them into the party. If not, other parties may take them first,” he pointed out.

He stressed that the survival of PBB is important as most of its members still love the party and want new ideas to

make the party attractive to the younger generation, and leaders must not just think of getting positions but give their best to make PBB the strongest party in the state.

He said those in the villages and longhouses still regard PBB as their champion to develop the rural areas.
