Over 500 Curtin graduates to receive scrolls

MIRI: Over 500 students will graduate from various Curtin postgraduate and undergraduate programmes on April 23.

The graduation ceremony will involve the Faculty of Business and Humanities and Faculty of Engineering and Science at Curtin University, Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak).

Curtin Sarawak yesterday said 32 postgraduate students of the Faculty of Business and Humanities will graduate with Master of Policy Sciences, Master of Science in Project Management and Graduate Certificate in Internet Communications programmes, and 248 graduates from the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce programmes.

Six postgraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering and Science will graduate with Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy degrees in Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering alongside 228 undergraduates from the Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Technology programmes.

Among those invited to attend the ceremony will be a delegation from Curtin University’s main campus headed by Acting Chancellor Sue Wilson, Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry and Acting Pro-Chancellor Michael Lishman.

Also invited are Curtin Sarawak’s Pro-Chancellor, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, chair of Curtin Sarawak’s Management Board and Senadin incumbent Datuk Lee Kim Shin; Curtin (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd chairman Dato’ Dr Hatta Solhi and members of the Curtin Sarawak Council, board of directors and management board.

The ceremony for the Faculty of Business and Humanities will be held at 10am and that for the Faculty of Engineering and Science at 2pm. Both will be held in the university’s Recreation and Event Centre.

In the evening starting 6.30pm there will be an award and scholarship dinner to be held at a hotel in Miri City.

The annual dinner is where Curtin Sarawak scholarships are presented to qualifying students, and industry-sponsored awards conferred on students for academic excellence, outstanding extracurricular activities and community service.

Among the sponsors are ACCA Malaysia, Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, Bintulu Development Authority, CPA Australia, Institution of Engineers Malaysia (Miri Branch), Yayasan Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Dr Chan and Tan Sri Celestine Ujang Jilan.

Curtin Sarawak, a globally-focused tertiary institution has about 4,000 students from more than 45 countries. The courses at Curtin Sarawak are identical with that offered at Curtin Perth, Australia and degrees earned are conferred directly by the parent campus.
