Noodles and milk to go on control list

KUALA LUMPUR: Rice noodles (bee hoon) and growing-up milk will be made controlled items just like other basic food items such as rice, refined wheat flour and cooking oil, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad.

He said this would enable their prices to be controlled by the Government and also make them eligible for subsidies for targeted groups both in urban and rural areas.

He said the Government planned to come out with its own brand of essential goods which would be cheaper than competitors products but of equal quality.

He said the Government would be cooperating with various parties to implement the programme.

He was speaking to reporters after launching F&Ns Outdo Yourself Awards ceremony in conjunction with the companys 125th anniversary.

F&N chief executive officer Tan Ang Heng said the company had allocated RM1.25mil as part of its corporate responsibility to recognise excellent academic achievement by children of its employees. Bernama
