Nikon D7000 & D3100 Reviews by Ken Rockwell

The D7000 is Nikon’s best DSLR. It handles better than any other Nikon, and has image quality second only to the $7,500 D3X, which weighs about four times as much.
The D7000 outperforms every other Nikon overall, and weighs less than most of them.
FX cameras are all about their bigger finders and wider selection of lenses; that’s different from mere technical matters.
Technically, FX has better texture retention at stupid-high ISOs, while the D7000 has less noise.
At low ISOs, the higher resolution of the D7000 has the edge, as noise isn’t an issue.
The D7000 will be hard to find in stock for a while. I got mine by ordering it from Adorama and waiting patiently.

The D3100 is a great camera. See my Nikon D3100 User’s Guide for more tips
I’d get a D3100 instead of other bigger, heavier and more expensive cameras unless you have a very clear, stated reason that the D3100 won’t work for you.
The reason I prefer to shoot FX cameras is mostly because the viewfinders are much bigger and I like to shoot old manual-focus lenses. The pictures are pretty much the same.

Cheers,

D3100 have stock liao but D7000 no stock most places.

Totally agree with the D7000 - when I got my D80 years ago I didn’t think I’d need anyting better - for someone like me who only does photography for fun and leisure…Furthermore I’ve only shot 15k pics with the D80 in 6 years - so effectively the D80 is still a relatively new camera…

Then I tried the D7000, 2nd day after it reached the stores. Wow! bought one on the spot.

How much is the Nikon D7000? Nikon/Canon which is better camera?

D7000 is about RM3900/-
As far as which camera is better, it is like comparing apple and orange! It is the guy behind the camera that count.

I’m also hooked but not yet buy one. I’m pulling hard on my “hand break” and engaging my “emergency break” also!

ken rockwell is paid by nikon

Of cause! But apparently they didn’t pay him enough because he said bad things about D300/300s, D3/3s and he even called the D3000 the worst camera ever made! :?

when D7000 was introduced into the market… I was in the middle of the crossroad considering upgrade to D7000 or D300…

and reading this… my seat is getting hotter…

what’s you guys think about it? to upgrade or not to upgrade? D7000 or D300? i am still a newbie hobbyist though… with occasional paid job for portraits and weddings…

depend on yourself lo,do your tools now cant do what you wish to do? if still can serve you well, tighten your safety belt kao kao

Considering the spec of the cameras (D7000 vs D300s), D7000 wins except for the frame rate (6 vs 8’) and focusing zone (39 vs 51). D300 is too old and can’t find new ones, only 2nd hand.
D300s new one more expensive than D7000, and for used one also very expensive. D7000 can get for less than RM3900/-
For wedding & portraits you need good low light performance, accurate colour balance and quick response which are D7000 specialty. You might also want quiet shutter operation and D7000 really is very quiet.
D300 & 300s both are old tech, D7000 is new tech, I’ll go for new tech.

you got a point there lasting99… I recvently heard from a fellow photographer that the D7000 goes to ISO6400 without much noise problem… thats is really poisonous if you ask me…
