New DAM chief vows to take association forward

MIRI: Serawa Budol returned unopposed as the president of Dayak Association Miri (DAM) at its Biennial General Meeting (BGM) held here recently.

In accepting her role as president, she hopes to bring DAM forward and continue to be active in supporting causes and activities that would benefit and uplift the socio-economic welfare of the members in particular and other communities in general.

“Education and business endeavours are our top priorities and we are also making progress to find ways and means to get our members to participate in business, especially as small time traders or in the small-medium enterprises (SMEs)” Serawa said in her appreciation speech following the BGM.

Serawa added that DAM had created some business opportunities for members through its ‘Pasar Ria Dayak’ which was held on every Saturday at the Uptown Market in Senadin.

“We are now working on other initiatives with the relevant government and private agencies to further expand our Pasar Ria Dayak to include other communities in the city,” she added.

At the BGM, other executive members who also retained their posts uncontested are Wilfred Mac (deputy president), Mathew Benson Mounsey (vice president), Nigel Isut (secretary-general), Henry Edward Tarang (assistant secretary-general), Anthony Francis Umpau (treasurer), Rowin Sutai Magoi (assistant treasurer), Jacqueline Selaka (women’s wing chairlady) and Rabi Impen (youth wing chairman).

Ordinary executive members for the next term are Julia Sambon Jugak, Ngadan Melintang, Abin Galieh@Aden, Alice Jeleni Kebing, Gloria Nati Mathew Limping and Lucas Jangum Ngabong.

The new faces are Albert Bangau Pengarah and Jacqueline Kemping.
