MIRI: Miri Mayor Adam Yii has denied that SUPP used nails to fix their banners to trees in conjunction with its 58th anniversary, as alleged by DAP.
He said it was mind-boggling for him to allow nails to be used for such a purpose as it would be against the Local Authorities By-law.
Yii is SUPP Pujut branch chairman and has been declared as the party’s candidate for the Pujut by-election.
He was responding to a photo with a nail on a SUPP banner hung on a tree in front of its Pujut office.
He said he then instructed the council staff to check on the allegation.
“There was only one nail found and there were seven banners hung up in the trees,” he said yesterday.
He wondered whether it was the fault of the contractor tasked with putting up the banners or was deliberately put there by unknown persons to cast aspersions on him and his party.
However, the contractor had denied putting the nail, he said, adding he had instructed the council’s enforcement officers to remove it.
