M'sian civil servants + FB + Office Hour, What say you?

It seems government servants have caught the online social networking fever too. Putrajaya civil servants chalked up almost 20 million hits on social networking websites in March alone. And yes, during office hours, mind you.

When averaged, that’s 870,000 daily visits to the websites by the civil servants in the 23-working-day month, reported The Star, a Malaysian newspaper.

As you can imagine, authorities are not happy.

Describing it as an abuse of Internet facilities, MAMPU* director-general Datuk Mohamad Zabidi Zainal pointed out that the unnecessary traffic could prove detrimental to online government services.

He said that the government encourages workers to embrace Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace but for official purposes only.

Mind your ethics ladies and gentlemen.

Why no one complain when some officers (MACC) surf porn site during working hours resulting in the death of TBH?

let’s stick to the topic first.

they should blocked the site in govt PC / Laptop so they cant access it ? As I know Govt staff are slow in providing in service…

erm… freedom of speech/great medication for overstress?

First of all, which gov dept or ministries are using FB?

that reminds me, i thought our PM use FB as well?

Here’s an idea…why not ban facebook, twitter and myspace on all government site and only use myemail? Then we’ll see how many civil servant happy with their current government. Najib, you too, try to walk the talk and use myemail yourself.

that reminds me, i thought our PM use FB as well?
1/10 of the time, it’s him. The rest are bots and Rosmah pretending to be acting PM.

Hell no! Every time they press the “send” button, our wallet gets lighter.

Hell no! Every time they press the “send” button, our wallet gets lighter.
Between wasting millions of dollar surfing facebook instead of dealing with taxpayers and myemail…I don’t really see the difference. Why not just torture them with myemail until they want to vote opposition to get their facebook back?

then here the newborn of “bukumuka.com:smiley:

I see your point there.

Agreed, slow in in service. As if they are force to work there. If they don’t like it, get another job or turun pangkat la. If they can get their job done efficiently and provide excellent service, then why not? But if their service is poor and don’t get job done and still surf the net, then action should be taken. Sometimes, I go and pay bills, I can actually see the counter people on Facebook. I hope I’m not the only one that experience this. I thought when we are paying bills, the first thing on the pc monitor should be the bill payment?

imho, it’s nothing wrong for the civil servants using fb. but don’t let fb ruins their work performance. that’s all.

hmmmm…why not the G ban all the internet since it cause more trouble…just like Egypt…

Why not ban computer, laptop, handheld or HP in G office. Go back to old school style. G servant should not surfing internet while on office hour unless it is necessary. No wonder most of their work a delay…

not all civil servants are like what you people describe here… some are hardworking and responsible… we cant deny that many civil servants e.g doctors and teachers are working like hell… yet what they get is not equivalent to what they have contributed…

if i’m not mistaken, theres a memo in some peninsular hospital

advising them staff the misi and the dresser about this internet stuff…
